How to Extract Hyperlink URLs in Excel (Without VBA)
The cell says "Company website". The address is nowhere in it — Excel keeps that in a separate object attached to the cell. So you copy the column and get a list of labels, export to CSV and lose every link, and end up clicking down the column reading the status bar.

Why no formula does this
Excel has no worksheet function that returns a hyperlink's target. FORMULATEXT helps only when the link is a =HYPERLINK() formula, and does nothing for a link inserted with Ctrl+K or created automatically when a URL was pasted. That is why nearly every answer online is a VBA macro looping over Range.Hyperlinks — which means enabling macros, saving as .xlsm, and pasting code from a stranger.

Extract Hyperlink Addresses
Select the linked cells and run Extract Hyperlink Addresses. It reads each cell's hidden link object and writes the address into a new column as plain text. It also reads =HYPERLINK() formulas, so it does not matter which kind of link you have — and it says how many of each it found. Cells with no link are left blank rather than filled with their own visible text. No macros, no .xlsm, and nothing leaves your device.
Hyperlink object, or visible text?
These are two different problems with two different tools:
- The cell shows a label and the address is hidden behind it → Extract Hyperlink Addresses (this page).
- The cell shows the address, perhaps inside a sentence → Extract Emails & URLs, which scrapes visible text.
Frequently asked questions
Why isn't the URL in the cell?
A linked cell's value is only its display text; the address sits in a separate object.
Is there a formula for it?
Not for real hyperlinks — the usual answer is a VBA macro. This tool needs none.
Does it read =HYPERLINK() formulas?
Yes, both kinds of link are covered.
Does it work on Mac and the web?
Yes, wherever Tellsheet runs.
